Mobile Premier League (MPL), an esports and talent gaming platform, announced the acquisition of GamingMonk, an esports gaming platform, for an undisclosed amount on Tuesday. GamingMonk organizes esports competitions on a variety of formats, including PC, consoles, and mobile phones. It acts as a launchpad for publishers as well as a community for players, resulting in an interconnected platform for esports, live streaming, and content exploration.

MPL has acquired the entire GamingMonk team as part of the deal. This acquisition will enable MPL to accelerate its market entry by bringing key national, international, and global tournament IPs to market, as well as grow a full suite of esports and broadcasting capabilities.

GamingMonk, headquartered in Delhi, had over 1.3 million registered users as of April 2021.

Sai Srinivas, Co-founder and CEO of MPL, said that GamingMonk would help them meet their target audience and communicate with their users more effectively. With the increased consumption of esports in recent years; with it being as competitive as any other sport; it gives them great satisfaction to present their customers with the latest games to play and enjoy their gaming passion.

MPL has launched Esports Arena

MPL has also announced Esports Arena, in which the network will host fortnightly esports competitions in some of its flagship games; such as chess, WCC, pool, and so on. Any of these tournaments will have a cash prize of Rs10 lakh; and all players will be able to participate for free. The games will also be streamed on MPL’s social media sites.

MPL’s Esports Arena aims to bring esports to the mainstream through smartphone-friendly game titles.

The number of livestream views in four such tournaments for games such as pool, chess, and WCC has surpassed 5 million; with over 70,000 players registered for the tournaments. These tournaments included chess grandmaster Vidit Gujrathi; as well as well-known gamers and streamers such as Jonathan Gaming, Gaming Guru, Soul Regaltos, and others.

Ashwin Haryani, co-founder of GamingMonk, is confident that their partnership with MPL; will not only help them achieve their goal, but will also change the way everyone in their country sees esports.
